The next day our Airbnb hosts gave us a lift back to Catania airport as that is where we were collecting our hire car from 🚗. We jumped in the car and drove south to the beautiful island of Oritiga.
Oritiga is the historic centre on a tiny island next to the city of Syracuse. It is reached by three bridges and consists of beautiful winding narrow cobbled streets, loads of churches, and is surrounded by tiny beaches and rocks where you can sunbathe and jump into the crystal-clear turquoise sea. We stayed just over the bridge on the Syracuse side as car access and parking is limited on Oritiga and it was just a 15-minute pleasant walk between the two along the marina.
Oritiga is charming and has a stunning Cathedral that you can visit after paying a small donation. The two days and nights here were spent walking around and getting lost in the quaint streets, eating delicious local Sicilian dishes and drinking numerous Aperol Spritz’s. We loved just walking around and getting lost in the winding streets of the old town, something which would become a recurring theme for our time in Sicily.
